DENVER -- Brett Anderson left Friday nights game before he wanted to. Still, he was a winner for the first time in 15 months. Anderson pitched effectively into the seventh inning before a blister ended his night and the Colorado Rockies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1. "Its good. Your goal when you pitch is to win the ballgame and its been a while," he said. "Its pretty satisfying, especially my first win in the National League. Hopefully Ill get on a roll here." Carlos Gonzalez homered and Josh Rutledge had two hits and drove in four runs for Colorado, which has won consecutive games for just the second time in the last six weeks. The Rockies are 16-40 since May 20 but they cooled off the Pirates, who entered Friday 44-29 since starting the season 10-18. Not every Colorado player left Coors Field in a good mood. Third baseman Nolan Arenado was removed from the game after he failed to run hard to first on a grounder to the mound in the fourth. Pirates starter Charlie Morton bobbled the ball but was able to get Arenado, who jogged at the start before hustling to try and beat the throw. "We talk a lot about playing the game hard, playing the game right and how important that is, especially when youve been getting your (butt) kicked for a while. Its even more important. Its imperative," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "I just felt Nolan didnt meet that standard at that point. Nolans a great kid. Hes a great player. Thats how I saw it." Anderson (1-3) had not won since beating Houston on April 7, 2013, in his last start for Oakland. He spent four months on the disabled list and moved to the As bullpen when he returned. He was winless in three April starts for Colorado before a broken left index finger put him on the shelf for 81 games. Friday was his third start since coming back and he allowed just two hits in 6 1-3 innings before a blister began to develop on his left index finger "I noticed it in the bottom of the sixth and then I started throwing some breaking balls there in the seventh and it kind of caught," Anderson said. "Hopefully got it before thing (turns) major. It didnt break open and they drained it. I dont foresee it being a problem." He left the game with a 1-0 lead after walking Russell Martin for the third time. "My stuff is getting better and better and my velocity is coming back," Anderson said. "... The offence showed up tremendously." Tommy Kahnle came on and got the last two outs of the seventh and the Rockies broke it open in the bottom of the inning off Morton (5-10). Ben Paulsen and Wilin Rosario led off with consecutive doubles and DJ LeMahieu singled. Ernesto Frieri relieved Morton and pinch-hitter Drew Stubbs bounced a grounder over the pulled-in infield for an RBI double. An intentional walk to Charlie Blackmon loaded the bases and Rutledge cleared them with a double to centre. "He pitched a good ballgame through six and the seventh got away from him," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Morton. "Frieri came in and wasnt able to quite execute the pitches he needed to so they piled up seven on us." One out later Gonzalez hit his 10th homer of the season to make it 8-0. "It was nice to see our offence but it was even better to see the way we pitched tonight," Gonzalez said. "Anderson gives us a big shot to win this game." The Rockies nearly pulled off a triple play in the fifth after Neil Walker led off the inning with Pittsburghs first hit of the game. With runners on first and second, Jordy Mercer hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Charlie Culberson, who stepped on the bag but his throw to second pulled Rutledges foot off the base. Rutledges relay to first got Mercer, and after a 3-minute, 16-second review the call at second was confirmed. NOTES: Walker has reached base in 22 straight games. Its the longest active streak in the majors. ... Members of the Manchester United Football Club visited with Rockies players during batting practice. ... Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game because of left knee discomfort. He pinch-hit in the seventh and stayed in the game. ... Rockies RHP Christian Bergman (broken left hand) will pitch in a rehab start in Double-A Tulsa on Tuesday. ... Pirates RHP Gerrit Cole (right lat soreness) will start at Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. ... Rockies manager Walt Weiss said LHP Franklin Morales will get the start Sunday. TreQuan Smith Jersey . Kansas City became the first team in baseball history to win four extra-inning games in a single postseason on Friday, as Alex Gordon crushed a leadoff homer in the 10th and Mike Moustakas added the deciding two-run blast in the Royals 8-6 win. Marcus Davenport Saints Jersey . Knapp defeated American Alison Riske 6-3, 7-5 to secure Italys victory in the best-of-five series. She held a 5-2 lead in the second set, only to let Riske tie it at five. http://www.authoritysaintsshop.com/cameron-meredith-saints-jersey-c-76/. He was 40. Firefighters were called about 11 a.m. Friday because Brown was unresponsive at his home near the Inner Harbor, fire spokesman Battalion Chief Kevin Cartwright said. He said Brown was dead when firefighters arrived. Cameron Meredith Jersey . Wrights first stint with Milwaukee was on a 10-day contract from March 14-23. He played in two games, averaging six points and two rebounds in 16. TreQuan Smith Saints Jersey . The Red Wings hadnt played the night before. The Boston Bruins had. A month from now, or two months from now, it doesnt matter. But right now it does matter, when you start and you play back to back, its wear and tear on you for sure, Babcock said.SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Theyve long competed in the shadow of Canadas Olympic ice dance champions, but Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje dont mind flying under the radar into Sochi. Weaver and Poje were runners-up once again to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir this past weekend at Skate Canada International, but the gap between scores was the closest its ever been -- giving Canada not one, but two ice dance teams that could reach the medal podium at the Sochi Olympics. "Being in the same sentence as Scott and Tessa is an extreme honour for us," Weaver said, after their lyrical free skate tango Saturday night to music by Argentine composer Astor Piazaolla. "Weve grown up with them, it feels like, for the past six years that weve been on the international circuit. Every time we get to share the ice with them I feel like we get stronger because theyre everything we strive to be." Virtue and Moir have wrestled American rivals Meryl Davis and Charlie White for the top step of the podium in every major international event for the past four years. The Canadians, of course, edged the Americans to win Olympic gold in Vancouver, and the two teams have split the last four world championship gold medals. A revolving door of skaters, meanwhile, have won bronze. Weaver and Poje -- second to Virtue and Moir in Saint John by less than six points -- say its an advantage to go into Sochi without the heavy expectations that sit squarely on their Canadian counterparts. "Thats a great spot for us to be in," Weaver said. "We love the attention for sure. But it helps us just focus on ourselves and makes us feel more normal, so were looking to peak at the right time and well definitely have all the pressure then, but its nice to maintain a bit of normalcy right now in the lead-up." "We dont have to be in the limelight as much," Poje added. "I think that adds a certain pressure to the situation thats already high stress. Its an extra distraction, so being able to sort of fly underneath the radar is something we definitely appreciate." Weaver and Pojee were fourth at the 2012 world championships, then fifth at the worlds last March -- the most recent result coming after Weaver was sidelined for almost the entire season with a broken fibula.dddddddddddd She was sidelined again this past summer after having the hardware removed from her ankle. "It was another month off the ice which was discouraging at first, that was the last thing I wanted to do," Weaver said. "But it was totally worth it, because everything is healthy and I dont have to worry about having five screws sticking into my skate and right now its not even a thought on either of our minds. So it was totally worth taking the extra time to heal it again." Weaver, a lover of old movies, watched her favourite -- the 1933 film "42nd Street" -- during her rehab, so the music was an obvious choice for their short dance this season. They turned to friend Geoffrey Tyler, who acted in the "42nd Street" musical at the Stratford Festival to help them choreograph the program. "(The movie) has always had a special place in my heart, because I skated to it when I was younger, and through my injury it was the one movie I could find solace in, it really helped me feel comfortable and it kind of took my mind off what was actually happening," she said. Weaver, 24, and the 26-year-old Poje teamed up in 2006 when both skaters found themselves without partners. Weaver, who was born in Houston, obtained her Canadian citizenship in 2009 to make her eligible to compete for Canada. The five-foot-six Weaver, and 6-3 Poje -- who might have been drawn by a Disney artist, theyre that wholesome/goodlooking -- teamed up in 2006 when both skaters found themselves without partners. Weaver, who was born in Houston, had been competing for the U.S., but obtained her Canadian citizenship in 2009. They narrowly missed qualifying for the 2010 Olympics, but it surely wont be the same story this time around. And with the expected retirement of Virtue and Moir following Sochi, ice dancing in Canada will certainly still be in good hands.
